Ginette Artist Statement

My style comes from the traditional Impressionist & Post Impressionist painters, which I study and admire, especially Van Gogh. I relate to him as a person and as an artist the most.

I paint mainly in Oil on Canvas and Watercolors and Ink on paper or canvas. Nature inspires me most. Animals, Flowers, scenes from around the world and places I have visited. My vision is Impressionism and have developed a modern version of it. The subject is today and the style is classic with a touch of my eccentricity. Color plays a huge part in my work. Opposing colors are like dancers in a dream. Weightless and in harmony.

I keep evolving and sometimes I find myself going a bit abstract. My work reflects my free spirit and adventures heart.

I paint what I love and that what I am connected to emotionally. People, places, interests, passions. My subject matter has a wide range because I have been to many places, lived an adventurous life and I think about a lot of things. All that shows up in my art. My 2nd passion is learning and I read a lot, so sometimes a painting has its roots in something I’ve read.

My materials are best quality pigment rich oil paints and canvas. The materials are important to me and they have to be quality to last. In my watercolor and ink work, I use dipping pens and an liquid ink, the dipping process and the various nip pens allow me to have great freedom in lines.

I paint quickly and fluidly in my watercolor work, diving into my blank paper without any pencil drawing... no erasing. It creates the occasional drip or mistake, they become part of the moment, immortalized. Perceived perfection does not interest me, perfection to me is is the uniqueness of imperfection.

I use brushes, painters knives and even my fingers to paint my oils. I often apply washes over dry paint and continue in layers until I have what I want in a painting.

I hope you enjoyed reading this, but mostly I hope my art speaks to you.

Painting to me is like breathing, I have to do it.

Painterly yours ~ Ginette
